Our mission is to advocate on behalf of domestic abuse victims and their children in a welcoming environment. Our caring professionals provide safety planning, support, shelter, and referrals while empowering survivors to build a safe and peaceful future.

Our work: We offer support, counseling, assistance, and resources to those who are contending with the effects of abusive relationships.

We help victims and survivors of domestic abuse with the confusion, fear and the multitude of emotions that are common when involved in an abusive intimate, family or caretaker relationship. We provide individuals with information regarding ways to be safe and help those involved in abusive relationships pave a path to rebuild their lives. We are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to listen and provide support. Counseling and court advocacy services are available in Ogle County. We have offices in Rochelle, IL; Oregon, IL; and Polo, IL.

Our History

In 1982, after the Illinois Domestic Violence Act was passed, a minister and a police officer who identified the need to protect families from domestic abuse inaugurated HOPE of Ogle County through volunteer efforts. In 1984, we increased the scope of client-centered services. In 2010, through the efforts of our board members, we opened Hope Chest, Twice Loved Boutique.

HOPE welcomes all victims and survivors of domestic abuse regardless of income, age, race, creed, sex, ethnicity, color, national origin, country of origin, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, citizenship status, limited English proficiency, spoken language, hard of hearing or Deaf, low literacy, disability or religion.
Our shelter facility and our office locations are accessible for individuals with disabilities and comply with the ADA. Assistance animals are welcome.

24-Hour Crisis Line, Safety Planning & Referrals

Those experiencing domestic abuse can contact HOPE of Ogle County 7 days a week/24 hours a day. This service is available in most languages. Our advocates are there to listen, offer support and provide information on ways to increase personal safety. Advocates provide information about victim’s rights and about local services that may also be of help.

Emergency Shelter

HOPE provides temporary emergency shelter for adults and their minor children who are experiencing domestic abuse. Safety, shelter, support and goal related services are provided to help individuals make their own choices about the next steps to take. Extended Emergency Shelter is also available by application to families who access our emergency shelter. In addition, a local provider offers temporary shelter to family pets whose owners are staying at our shelter. They are a boarding and grooming facility that generously assists those who need a safe place for their pets.

Individual Counseling

Adult and child counseling services are provided by appointment in Rochelle, Polo, and Oregon. Folks who are experiencing or have experienced domestic abuse are welcome to contact HOPE to set an appointment with one of our supportive counselors. Teens involved in abusive relationships can also be provided individual support and counseling. Children of adult clients are offered child-centered counseling to help them with the effects of witnessing or experiencing abuse. Family counseling for the non-abusive caregiver and child is also available.

Public Education and Professional Training

HOPE staff provides public education to local schools, colleges, service organizations, and businesses. Topics covered are: the warning signs of abusive relationships, dating abuse, healthy relationships, domestic abuse, how the community can help, and HOPE of Ogle County services and strangulation prevention education.

Court Advocacy

Court advocates are available to assist those experiencing domestic abuse, in obtaining court Orders of Protection in Ogle County. Court advocates provide support and guidance to assist victims through the court process and can provide referrals for legal assistance.

Latinx Advocacy

HOPE services are offered in Spanish and the HOPE Latinx Counselor can meet with Spanish speaking clients to talk about their rights, resources, options, and provide counseling and support.

Support Groups

Weekly support groups are available for adults and their children. Adult support group provides a safe environment for you to talk about your experiences, struggles, and accomplishments with others who have also gone through abusive situations. The goal of support group is to promote personal growth, learn about safety, and increase one’s inner strength. HOPE’s support groups provide an opportunity to support and be supported by peers and HOPE staff.

Children's Support Group: Age-appropriate activities are provided to help children learn how to resolve conflict, build positive self-worth, identify safe ways to express their feelings, build personal safety plans and foster healthy relationships with peers.
